쓰임이 다양한 접속사 "as" 구문 파헤치기

 

형태 : as + 주어 + 동사

의미

- 시간 접속사 : ~할 때, ~하면 (= when) / ~하는 동안, ~하면서 (= while)

- 이유 접속사 : (왜냐하면) ~때문에, ~이므로, ~이어서, ~해서 (= because, since)

- 양보 접속사 : 비록 ~일지라도 (= although)

    → 양보 접속사의 경우에는 '명사 / 형용사 / 부사 / 무관사 + as + 주어 + 동사'의 형태로 써야 합니다.

as절은 문장 앞, 뒤 어느 쪽에도 올 수 있고,

as 절이 문장의 맨 앞에 올 경우 as가 포함된 절의 끝에 콤마(,)를 붙여요.

 

(예시)

As you check the e-mail, could you give me a reply?

(= Could you give me a reply as you check the e-mail?)

→ as = when

 

She kept laughing loudly as I told the funny story.

(= As I told the funny story, she kept laughing loudly.)

→ as = while

As he was hit by a car, he's in a hospital now with broken legs.

(= He's in a hospital now with broken legs as he was hit by a car.)

→ as = because

Child as she is, she is really patient.

(= Although she is child, she is really patient.)

→ as = although

 

 '시간을 나타내는 as절'에서는 내용상 미래의 의미일지라도 현재시제로 써요.

(예) You would see the mall as you drive through the next intersection.

전치사 as ​   형태 : as + 명사   의미 : ~로서, ~와 같이, ~처럼   (예) She is famous all over the world as a Youtuber. (그녀는 유튜버로서 전세계적으로 유명하다.)            My brother is dressed as a wizard. (내 남동생은 마법사처럼 옷을 입었다.)
